1. How important is your diet when playing elite level sport & what tips would you give someone looking to sustain a healthy diet?

Eating a homemade, non-processed foods diet is essential for peak performance when playing sport. A well-balanced diet containing appropriate amounts of macronutrients (protein, carbohydrates and fat) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) is needed to provide enough energy for your body. The most important thing is to be consistent and organised with your meals so that your body is taking in the right amount of energy it needs every day. I like to plan these out in advance of each week where possible. It will also ensure your energy levels don’t fluctuate so you’re able to perform at a high level over longer periods.

2. Starting with breakfast, what do you eat on the day of a game?

Breakfast: Porridge with granola, fruit, and honey

Lunch: Wholewheat pasta, chicken breast, and broccoli with tomato sauce

Snacks: Corn cake with peanut butter and fruit/ Toasted wholemeal slimbo with scrambled egg

3. What is your favourite postmatch meal & what role does it play in recovery?

Definitely a chicken curry with vegetables and brown rice along with a glass of protein milk. My body needs to be replenished with the right nutrients after being drained during a game so the protein in the chicken and milk helps me to recover at a quicker rate.

4. What is your favourite healthy eating recipe?

Homemade Carrot and Cumin Soup

Boil everything together and blitz once it’s cooked. Serve with brown soda bread.
